SOFAST Arrests Murderer Fleeing From Illinois

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The U.S. Marshals Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (SOFAST) arrested an Illinois juvenile yesterday on an outstanding warrant issued by the Rock Island County Illinois.

Kire G. Carr, 17, of Rock Island, Illinois was wanted by the Rock Island Police Department for one count of First Degree Murder. The warrant, which was issued on April 27th, alleges that on that same day Carr and a female accomplice became involved in a dispute with several people which led to the fatal shooting of a 15 year old. Carr is alleged to have been the triggerman.

Working closely with Deputies of the U.S. Marshals office in the Central District of Illinois and Detectives from the Rock Island Police Department, Columbus-based Deputy Marshals and Task Force Officers tracked down Carr late last night at an apartment on Floral Circle South on Columbus’ southwest side. Carr was reportedly staying in Columbus only briefly and had plans to flee to coastal Georgia. Carr’s plans were dashed when members of SOFAST converged on the small apartment and arrested him without incident. Carr was accompanied by the female accomplice and her infant child amongst others. Carr is currently in custody awaiting extradition proceedings.

Peter C. Tobin, United States Marshal for the Southern District of Ohio, said, “This is an important arrest of a young man who has demonstrated little concern for the lives of others.”

Columbus SOFAST is a fugitive-focused, U.S. Marshals Service-led task force consisting of local, state and federal authorities including the Columbus Police Department, Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio Adult Parole Authority, Reynoldsburg Police Department, Delaware County Probation, Hocking County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, United States Secret Service and the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
