U.S Marshals Arrest Convicted Sex Offfender
 
Springfield, MO - Alfred C. Lomax, the United States Marshal for the Western District of Missouri, announces the arrest of fugitive Christopher D. Harper.

On April 15, 2016, investigators with the U.S. Marshals Service – Southern Iowa Fugitive Task Force, along with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), Polk County, Iowa Sheriff’s Office, and the Urbandale Police Department located and arrested fugitive Christopher Harper at a hotel in Des Moines, Iowa. Harper, 33, is a convicted sex offender and has pending charges in Greene County, Missouri, for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender. In 2004, Harper was convicted of Statutory Rape in the 1st Degree of a 5 year old. Based on the nature of that offense, Harper is required to register as a sex offender every 3 months for the rest of his life. Harper is also being investigated by the Christian County, Missouri Sheriff’s Office for additional criminal charges involving the abuse of children.

A warrant was issued for Harper’s arrest on March 18, 2016. The search for Harper was conducted by the U.S. Marshals Service – Southern Missouri Fugitive Task Force in conjunction with the Christian County, Missouri Sheriff’s Office. Information was developed during the course the fugitive investigation which indicated that Harper was residing in Grand Island, Nebraska. Based upon this information, investigators from the U.S. Marshals Service – District of Nebraska further developed information that Harper was residing in the Des Moines, Iowa, area. U.S. Marshals Service – Southern Iowa Fugitive Task Force, along with the ATF, FBI, Polk County, Iowa Sheriff’s Office, and the Urbandale Police Department responded to a hotel in Des Moines, Iowa. Once there, officers located and arrested Harper without further incident.

The U.S. Marshals Service – Southern Missouri Fugitive Task Force is a team comprised of law enforcement officers from the U.S. Marshals Service, Christian County Sheriff’s Office, Springfield Police Department, Joplin Police Department, and the Nixa Police Department. The task force’s objective is to seek out and arrest violent fugitives and sexual predators.
