|U.S. Marshals Warn Public About Scam|
- The United States Marshals Service is alerting the public to the fact
that someone in the Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Farmington areas is
attempting to defraud the public by impersonating Deputy U.S. Marshals.
U.S. Marshals in New Mexico were advised several times a day calls are
being made, where the caller has identified himself as a US Marshal and
asks the public for money. The scam involves the caller trying to get
the public to pay a fine with a credit card, or send money for a loved
one that is incarcerated and needs bond/bail money. On one occasion, the
caller stated that back taxes were owed and fines needed to be paid
immediately over the phone.
