Tips Lead U.S. Marshals to Michigan Sex Offender Hiding in Ohio

NOVFTF LogoToledo, OH – At approximately 11:00 p.m. last night, the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) arrested Clifford Wittenburg, age 31, at the Wind Jammer Apartments in Springfield Township, Ohio. Wittenburg was wanted by the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, in Michigan, for sexual assault of a minor and had been wanted since September of 2013.

The U.S. Marshals Detroit Fugitive Apprehension Team (DFAT) developed information that Wittenburg had ties to Toledo and the NOVFTF began investigative efforts to locate him. The NOVFTF profiled Wittenburg on a local Toledo TV news station and two tips were received. After investigating the tips, information was developed that Wittenburg was hiding at the Wind Jammer Apartments and using the name of "Tim". The NOVFTF identified the apartment that Wittenburg was hiding in and he was arrested by the NOVFTF without incident. Wittenburg was taken to the Lucas County Jail to await extradition to Michigan.

U.S. Marshal Peter J. Elliott stated, “This was a great example of a safe and successful outcome as a result of our task force working in conjunction with the USMS task force in Detroit and also with the assistance of concerned citizens.”
