|U.S. Marshals Arrest Man Wanted for Sex Crimes Against Children|
Cleveland, OH – Yesterday, at approximately 4:30 p.m., Deputy U.S. Marshals from Arkansas arrested William Waters III, age 38, near the airport in Ft. Smith, AR. Waters was wanted by the Westlake Police for 2 counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a child under the age of 16. The charges stem from several occasions when Waters allegedly molested 2 children over the course of many years. Westlake charged him on July 21st and Waters fled the area. On July 23rd, Westlake Police referred the fugitive investigation of Waters to the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF). The NOVFTF added Waters to the “Agonizing 8” most wanted sex offender list and profiled him in local media.
The NOVFTF developed information that Waters was near the Ft. Smith, AR, area and asked the U.S. Marshal’s Office in Western Arkansas for assistance. Yesterday afternoon, deputies saw a man driving a van that looked like Waters. When deputies approached the van to positively identify Waters, the van sped off. After a brief vehicle pursuit and physical struggle, Waters was arrested and transported to the Sabastian Co. Jail.
U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott said, “People that commit crimes against children are the worst offenders. We will stop at nothing and go any distance to bring these fugitives to justice.”
