U.S. Marshals Arrest Florida Man Wanted for 3 Counts of Attempted Murder

NOVFTF LogoCleveland, OH – Yesterday, at approximately 10:30 p.m., the U.S. Marshal’s Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF), with the assistance of the Cleveland Police and the Lakewood Police, arrested Omar Ayyesh, age 26. Ayyesh was wanted out of Florida by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. He is wanted for three counts of attempted murder. Ayyesh was a clerk at a food mart in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. It is alleged that on Sept. 25th last week, Ayyesh got into an argument with 3 customers at his store. Ayyesh kicked the customers out and went back in to the store, grabbed a handgun, went back outside and began shooting at the three individuals. Ayyesh shot two of the victims wounding them. Ayyesh then went on the run. Yesterday, the U.S. Marshal’s Florida Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force received information that Ayyesh may have fled to the Cleveland area and requested the assistance of the NOVFTF in locating Ayyesh.

The NOVFTF developed information that Ayyesh was possibly hanging out at a store in Maple Heights. Members of the NOVFTF set up around the store and saw a man that resembled Ayyesh get into a vehicle and leave the area. While traveling on I-90 westbound in Cleveland, Ayyesh was positively identified. Ayyesh attempted to exit the freeway and a traffic stop was conducted by marked Cleveland Police units along with members of the NOVFTF and Lakewood Police. Ayyesh was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Cuyahoga County Jail where he will await extradition back to Broward County.

U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott said, “This violent fugitive thought he could run to Northern Ohio to hide from his charges. He thought wrong. Thanks to teamwork with our partner agencies and dedication from those involved, dangerous criminals will think twice about running here to try and escape.”
