Pittsburgh Homicide Suspect Captured

WPAFTF LogoPittsburg, PA - Officers assigned to the United States Marshals Service Western Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force (WPAFTF) arrested homicide suspect Cornell Poindexter at 6:30 am this morning. Poindexter, age 28, was charged by the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police with Criminal Homicide, Criminal Attempt-Criminal Homicide, Persons not to Possess a Firearm, Aggravated Assault and Recklessly Endangering another Person on May 17, 2014. Poindexter is accused in the March 1, 2014 shooting death of Vincent Holt and the wounding of four additional patrons inside the Phase III Bar on Hamilton Avenue in the Homewood section of Pittsburgh.

The WPAFTF initiated an investigation in June to locate and arrest Poindexter upon the request of the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police that culminated into today’s arrest without incident at a residence in the 6800 block of Rowan Street in the Homewood section of Pittsburgh. Officers recovered two handguns and approximately one ounce of crack cocaine incident to the arrest.

Poindexter was turned over to the custody of Pittsburgh Homicide Detectives following his arrest.

The Western Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force is made up of the following: U.S. Marshals, Pennsylvania State Police, Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole, Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office, Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Attorney’s Office
