Arrest Made in Greensboro, NC Murder Case by U.S. Marshals

Greensboro, NC – Tuesday morning at 10:15 AM, Donald Preston Ferguson, a 52 year old black male was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder and First Degree Sex Offense in connection to the July 1990 death of seven year old Shalonda C. Poole. Greensboro U.S. Marshals received information regarding Ferguson’s whereabouts which led investigators to the Spartanburg, South Carolina area. Upon receipt of this information, Greensboro investigators sent the information to deputies with the U.S. Marshals Operation Intercept Task Force (OPIN).

Surveillance was conducted by OPIN at 846 Carson Avenue and Ferguson was observed looking outside the door. Task members approached the residence, knocked on the door, and Ferguson came outside and was arrested without incident. Ferguson was transported to the Spartanburg County Jail pending extradition to Greensboro, NC.

OPIN was assisted by the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, and the South Carolina Department of Probation and Parole.

The U.S. Marshals Joint Fugitive Task Force for the Middle District of North Carolina is comprised of investigators from the U.S. Marshals Service, Chapel Hill Police Department, Durham Police Department, Greensboro Police Department, High Point Police Department, Winston Salem Police Department, Alamance County Sheriff’s Office, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, the North Carolina Department of Public Safety Probation and Parole Division and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
