Murder Suspect Arrested

Roswell, NM – Deputies with the United States Marshals Service, Roswell Police Department Patrol Officers and SWAT team members arrested suspected murderer Joseph G. Lucero. Lucero was arrested in the 1600 block of North Greenwood in Roswell, NM. Lucero is charged with the murder stemming from a shooting that occurred on November 27, 2013 where the victim, Victor Contreras, died as a result of the injuries sustained from a gunshot wound.

Roswell Police obtained a warrant for Lucero’s arrest charging him with Murder shortly after the shooting. The Roswell Police Department along with United States Marshals Service Investigators began the search for Lucero and quickly began to garner information on his whereabouts. After tireless hours investigating potential leads authorities received a break in the case. Information lead the investigators to the 1600 block of greenwood in Roswell, NM where they surrounded the house they believed Lucero to be hiding in.

Shortly after announcing their presence Lucero and his girlfriend surrendered to authorities. Subsequent to Lucero’s arrest the Roswell Police Department obtained a search warrant for the house and recovered a handgun and semiautomatic rifle. Lucero was taken into custody on the outstanding murder warrant and his girlfriend was also arrested and charged with harboring a fugitive.
