U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force Locates Marion County
Armed Robbery Suspect in Northwest Gainesville

Gainesville, FL – The U.S. Marshals Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force - including investigators from the U.S. Marshals Service, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, and the Gainesville Police Department – located fugitive Miker Debose this afternoon in northwest Gainesville. Debose was wanted by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office on an outstanding arrest warrant issued last month for robbery with a firearm. Debose was also wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service on an outstanding federal warrant for violation of supervised release. Debose was released from federal prison in June 2013 after serving a 210-month sentence for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Through investigation, Task Force investigators developed information that Debose was no longer in Marion County and had been frequently changing locations in an attempt to avoid arrest. This morning, Task Force investigators learned Debose was hiding in Gainesville in an apartment at 4400 NW 39th Avenue.

At approximately 12:30 p.m., Task Force investigators surrounded unit #132 and immediately noticed movement inside the apartment. Moments later, Task Force investigators heard a single gunshot from inside the apartment and saw a woman run out the front door yelling that Debose had just shot himself. Debose then crawled out of the apartment and was provided first aid for an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest. Debose was transported by EMS to the University of Florida Health Shands Hospital where he is currently in surgery in critical condition. Law enforcement personnel sustained no injuries.

Task Force investigators located a firearm inside the apartment. The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a shooting investigation.
