U.S. Marshals Task Force Arrests Murder Suspect

Durham, NC -  Montreal Malik Russell, 18, was arrested yesterday morning and charged with murder in connection with the shooting of Demario Lucas, 23, of Durham. On October 20, at 3:48 a.m., Durham police officers responded to the 1400 block of Cornwallis Road and found Russell laying in a breezeway. Lucas had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene. Another man had also been injured during the incident and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Upon investigating the whereabouts of Russell, information developed by investigators of the U.S. Marshals Joint Fugitive Task Force (JFTF), based in Greensboro, led them to believe that Russell may be at the Wake Inn located in Raleigh, North Carolina. Greensboro based JFTF  investigators, along with investigators from the Raleigh based U.S. Marshals Violent Offender Task Force and the Raleigh Police Department, responded to the Wake Inn and arrested Russell. Russell remains in custody pending further legal proceedings.

The U.S. Marshals Joint Fugitive Task Force for the Middle District of North Carolina is comprised of investigators from the U.S. Marshals Service, Chapel Hill Police Department, Durham Police Department, Greensboro Police Department, High Point Police Department, Winston-Salem Police Department, Alamance County Sheriff’s Office, the North Carolina Division of Public Safety, and the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
