Los Angeles Rape Suspect Arrested in Eunice

Lafayette, LA – On February 26th at approximately 3:00 p.m. forty-nine year old Gary James was arrested by members of the U.S. Marshals Violent Offender Task Force (VOTF) and Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office at a residence on the 2800 block of Prudhomme Road in Eunice (Acadia Parish). James was Wanted by the Los Angeles Police Department on an October, 2012 warrant for “Lewd Lascivious Acts with Child Less than 14 Years of Age.”

On the day of the arrest (Feb 26th) the US Marshals in Los Angeles (members of the Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force) contacted VOTF-Lafayette and advised VOTF about this suspect and the possibility of him being in the Eunice area. VOTF immediately responded to Eunice, located the target vehicle (a White Chevy Pickup with Arizona tags), and made entry at the home where the truck was parked. James was found inside the home working construction, attempted to provide an alias, but after a brief investigation James admitted to being the Gary James who was Wanted in Los Angles. James was booked at Acadia Parish’s Jail.

Henry Whitehorn, the United States Marshal for the Western District of Louisiana, said, “The coordinated effort of all law enforcement to bring dangerous criminals to justice ensures that the streets and neighborhoods of Louisiana are a safer place to raise our children.”

The Western District of Louisiana’s Violent Offender Task Force (VOTF) in Lafayette is a team comprised of full-time law enforcement officers from the Lafayette City Marshals, Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office, Lafayette Police Department, St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office, and Louisiana Probation and Parole. Further, VOTF calls upon part-time TFO’s throughout its eight parish area. In 2012 VOTF in Lafayette closed nearly 400 Warrants, most of which were violent felony offenses. US Marshals Task Forces throughout the United States arrested more than 86,000 state and local fugitives on felony charges.
