Suspected Burglar Arrested in Winooski

Burlington, VT – The U.S. Marshals Service, Vermont Violent Offender Task Force (VVOTF) has arrested a fugitive who was wanted by the Vermont Department of Corrections for escape.

Jason Cannon, 30, of Winooski was arrested this morning in Winooski, Vermont at approximately 3:00 a.m., without incident by officers from Winooski, South Burlington, Colchester and Deputy U.S. Marshals. Cannon was charged with escape in November when he removed his monitoring bracelet and decided to try and run from the law. Cannon has also been named as a suspect in several burglaries in Chittenden County.

The arrest was a result of a culmination of investigative efforts by the U.S. Marshals VVOTF, Winooski Police, South Burlington Police, Colchester Police and the Vermont State Police.

During fiscal year 2011, U.S. Marshals nationally arrested more than 36,200 federal fugitives, and USMS led task forces arrested 86,400 state and local fugitives. Additionally, U.S. Marshals apprehended 12,144 sex offenders.
