Barrio Azteca Gang Member Goes Back to Jail

Las Cruces, NM – On October 9, 2012, Deputy United States Marshals in Las Cruces, NM, added Pedro Orrantia to the Marshal’s New Mexico Most Wanted list. Orrantia was placed on NM Most Wanted due to his gang affiliation and violent criminal history. Orrantia eluded captivity for two years. United States Marshals believed Orrantia was in the Las Cruces metro area and requested the assistance of the public.

On October 17, 2012, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office received a tip that Orrantia was in Berino, NM. Deputy Marshals were able to locate an old girlfriend of Orrantia and conducted surveillance on Delicias Street. Deputies observed Orrantia and took him into custody without incident. District of New Mexico, United States Marshal, Conrad E. Candelaria, said “dangerous fugitives that are added to the United States Marshals Service, New Mexico’s Most Wanted list it is a successful program because of the collaborative efforts of the media, law enforcement from many jurisdictions in addition to the involvement of citizens that take an active role in keeping our communities safe by providing law enforcement officials with information that leads to the identity and location of wanted fugitives”. Orrantia was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center and is awaiting his court appearance.
