Suspect Arrested in 2011 Homicide in Fresno, CA

Fresno, CA – U.S. Marshal Albert Najera of the Eastern District of California announced today that the Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Joe Anthony Aguilar Rodriguez in Fresno, California. Rodriguez was wanted for a Homicide that occurred in 2011.

On December 1, 2011, Rodriguez and another suspect, Abel Perez III, who is still outstanding, were walking in the area of Church and Martin Luther King Blvd in Fresno, CA. Rodriguez and Perez, who are members of a criminal street gang, came across the victim Joey Calderon, who was a member of a rival criminal street gang. Rodriguez and Perez confronted Calderon and began physically assaulting him; producing a knife and stabbing Calderon at least one time, killing him.

Numerous individuals witnessed this killing and were interviewed by homicide detectives with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office. Rodriguez and Perez were quickly identified as the suspects and attempts to locate them were unsuccessful.

After conducting numerous interviews, task force members with the Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force developed information that Rodriquez was residing at an apartment complex in northeast Fresno. On March 2, 2012, at approximately 2:30 p.m. task force officers surrounded the apartment and made contact with several individuals who were uncooperative with authorities. Task force members continued to conduct a surround and call out for Rodriguez in the apartment. After much persuading, Rodriguez subsequently surrendered to authorities and was placed into custody.

Two additional males were also arrested at the apartment for outstanding warrants and harboring fugitive Rodriguez.

The Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force is a U.S. Marshals-sponsored partnership comprised of investigators from federal, state, and local agencies.
