Wisconsin Fugitive Arrested in Barranquilla, Colombia

MILWAUKEE – Kevin A. Carr, United States Marshal for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, announced the arrest of Thomas Friedel.

Friedel, a fugitive wanted in Waukesha County, was arrested by authorities in Barranquilla, Colombia. The US Marshals worked closely with Colombian investigators over the past several weeks. After his arrest, Friedel was subsequently expelled from Colombia, and arrested by Deputy US Marshals once he arrived at the Miami International Airport in Florida this afternoon.

A warrant for Friedel’s arrest was issued in Waukesha County in April of 2008, charging him with First Degree Sexual Assault of a Child Under the Age of Thirteen. The alleged conduct occurred in the City of Brookfield in late 2007.

Marshal Carr pointed out that the capture was the result of the good investigative work done by Colombian investigators, and the ongoing partnership between the U.S. Marshals and the U.S. Department of State with respect to international fugitive investigations.

Friedel now awaits extradition proceedings in Florida before being brought back to Wisconsin to face trial in connection with the charges.
