Deputies from the Eastern District of Louisiana Team up with the Dryades YMCA to Commemorate the 5th Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina
New Orleans, LA Ė On Saturday, August 28, 2010, five years after Hurricane Katrina devastated the New Orleans metro area and the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Deputy U.S. Marshals (DUSMs) from the Eastern District of Louisiana in New Orleans partnered with the Dryades YMCA/James M. Singleton Charter School to remember that fateful day and celebrate the cityís rebirth.

Even heavy rains could not stop people from participating in this event to mark the five year anniversary of one of the biggest natural disasters ever in U.S. history.  The eventís activities included a program, which featured student performances, reflections from those who were affected by Hurricane Katrina, and proclamations by local government officials. The eventís special guests included U.S. Congressman Joseph Cao, staff members from New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieuís office, New Orleans City Council President Arnie Fielkow and representatives of the New Orleans Police Department. The program was followed by a reception that included food, fun and fellowship. Additionally, children were provided with books and school supplies. The EDLAís DUSMs operated a spacewalk, which was thoroughly enjoyed by the children in attendance, most of whom were already familiar with the deputies because they had participated in the Districtís Gang .Resistance Education And Training (G.R.E.A.T.) Summer camp this past July.
