Fugitive Safe Surrender - New Mexico

Las Cruces, NM – The Fugitive Safe Surrender program recently held in Las Cruces, New Mexico July 28th thru the 31st was a complete success in every way. Expectations were surpassed in numbers and cooperation between each law enforcement agency. Sharon Beth Kristal, the Fugitive Safe Surrender National Coordinator and Jeff Kretschmar, Ph. D. from Kent State University stated that it was one of the smoothest running sites to date. As an added bonus to the large numbers, several fugitives who were sought after by the USMS task force turned themselves under the FSS program. One fugitive had been a target of the USMS fugitive task force had been in hiding for over six months on felony cocaine charges.
The total numbers for the site included 1071 people through our doors, 1307 warrants cleared, 7 arrests.

The USMS enjoyed the accolades from the media as well as the community in general. The Participating agencies were the USMS District of New Mexico, USMS District of West Texas/El Paso, Las Cruces Police Department, Dona Ana County Sheriff Department, New Mexico State Probation, Las Cruces Municipal Court, New Mexico Magistrate Court, New Mexico 3rd Judicial District State Court, Federal Magistrate Court, Bureau of Justice Assistance, FOX news, America’s Most Wanted, Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral, City of Las Cruces, County of Dona Ana.
