Des Moines, IA - A major fugitive wanted on an outstanding federal arrest warrant has been arrested by a team of law enforcement officers led by U.S. Marshals in Aurora, Colorado. Antwan Cortez White was being sought on a federal arrest warrant issued in the Southern District of Iowa charging him with Failure to Appear for Trial.

White was originally arrested in April 2008 on charges of Possession with the Intent to Distribute Cocaine Base and Cocaine, Possession of a Firearm in Furtherance of a Drug Trafficking Crime, and Felon in Possession of Firearms and Ammunition. White was released from federal custody in May 2008 on his promise to appear for trial. A federal arrest warrant was issued for White in March 2009 after he allegedly failed to appear for trial on the drug and weapons charges.

During the course of the fugitive investigation, U.S. Marshals followed up on numerous leads, most recently in the Denver, Colorado area. On February 27, 2010, U.S. Marshals in Des Moines received a tip which led them to the Denver suburb of Aurora, Colorado. On March 1, 2010, U.S. Marshals in the District of Colorado located White hiding under a bed in an Aurora, Colorado apartment complex and arrested him without further incident. White is currently being held in U.S. Marshals custody in Colorado pending his removal to the Southern District of Iowa.

Annually, investigations carried out by the U.S. Marshals result in the apprehension of approximately 34,000 federal fugitives. More federal fugitives are arrested by Marshals than all other federal agencies combined.

The U.S. Marshals Southern Iowa Fugitive Task Force is a team comprised of law enforcement officers from the U.S. Marshals Service, Polk County Sheriff’s Office, ATF and the Iowa Department of Public Safety. The task force objective is to seek out and arrest violent fugitives. Last year, U.S. Marshals task forces arrested more than 27,000 state and local fugitives on felony charges.
