Task Force Recovers More Than Just Their Fugitive

Columbus, OH – James Wahlrab, United States Marshal for the Southern District of Ohio, announced today that Aaron Gilbert has been arrested.

On July 10, 2009 a warrant was issued for Gilbert by the Franklin County Common Pleas Court for Possession of Drugs.

Through an investigation conducted by the Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (SOFAST), Gilbert was located at the 1800 block of East North Broadway, in Columbus. On July 28, 2009 SOFAST officers converged on the residence and arrested the 24 year old Gilbert. At the time of arrest, officers found over 4 grams of a substance suspected to be crack cocaine and a large sum of money on Gilbert’s person. A search warrant was executed at the residence and among the items uncovered were a bullet-resistant vest and multiple weapons, including an assault rifle. The items, including the suspected crack cocaine and currency, were seized by Columbus Division of Police Narcotics Detectives. Gilbert was transported to a local correctional facility where he will be held pending court proceedings.

SOFAST is a multi-agency fugitive apprehension team comprised of the following law enforcement agencies in the Columbus area: U.S. Marshals Service, U.S. Attorney’s Office, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, City of Columbus Division of Police, Worthington Police Department, Grove City Police Department, Reynoldsburg Police Department, Lancaster Police Department, City of Columbus Division of Fire, State of Ohio Adult Parole Authority, State of Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification & Investigation, U.S. Department of Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement, U.S. Department of Agriculture and the South Bloomfield Police Department.
