SALT LAKE CITY – While committing an
armed robbery here, Miguel Mateos-Martinez allegedly shot a store
owner to death, despite her full cooperation with his demands for
money. This crime was particularly brutal as the proprietor was shot
in front of her two young siblings. This vicious murder has landed
Mateos-Martinez on the U.S. Marshals list of 15 Most Wanted
Mateos-Martinez, 20, a Mexican native, is a documented member of a
street gang with a violent criminal record despite his youth. He is
currently wanted in the District of Utah for unlawful flight to
avoid prosecution with an underlying state charge of aggravated
murder and armed robbery. The driver of the get-away car used in
this crime has been arrested, but Mateos-Martinez remains at large.
“The very nature of this criminal act
obligates us to add Miguel Mateos-Martinez to our 15 Most Wanted
Fugitive list and commit all available resources to his capture,”
said United States Marshals Service Director John Clark. “The victim
was not resisting, was not fighting, and yet was still gunned down.
This is an unimaginable act of violence and we are determined to do
everything we can to track down and apprehend this ruthless
Mateos-Martinez is a Hispanic male,
approximately five-feet-three-inches tall and weighing 225 lbs. He
has brown hair and brown eyes and often has a shaved head. Mateos-Martinez
has tattoos on his right forearm, left wrist and hand. The tattoo on
his left hand is a chain with a cross.
