In October of 2011, President Barack Obama appointed Martin J. Pane as the United States Marshal for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.

As Marshal, his responsibilities encompass leading and directing operations, including security and protection of the United States Courts, criminal investigations, fugitive apprehension, execution of federal court orders and other law enforcement activities. Under his leadership as Marshal, the Middle District of Pennsylvania received the U.S. Marshals Service Distinguished District Award in 2016.

Marshal Pane began his career in law enforcement in 1988, becoming a Deputy U.S. Marshal. He served initially in the District of New Jersey, Newark Office and transferred to the Middle District of Pennsylvania in 1992. During his more than 30 years with the U.S. Marshals Service, Marshal Pane was meritoriously promoted to the positions of Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal, Judicial Security Inspector, Assistant Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal and Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal. Nationally, he has served the Agency in the following capacities: as a member of the Human Resources Advisory Committee, a member of the Director’s Committee for Full Performance Level 13, as a Merit Promotion Structured Interviewer, a Merit Promotion Package Reviewer, as a member of the Merit Promotion Exam Working Group, as an Agency Grievance Official and temporarily as an Agency Deciding Official. Marshal Pane has also served as a panel member conducting interviews for candidates of the United States Military Service Academies.

As a Deputy U.S. Marshal, Marshal Pane performed many missions throughout the United States and abroad. These included safeguarding the prosecutions of General Noriega, Timothy McVeigh, Mohammed A. Salameh, Sheik Rahman, Ramzi Yousef, Matta-Ballesteros and numerous organized crime and major drug lord figures. He enforced Marshal Law during the L.A. Riots and in St. Thomas following Hurricane Marilyn. Marshal Pane has performed numerous protection details to include the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Deputy Attorney General, and the U.S. Drug Czar. From 1990 – 1998, he served as a member of the U.S. Marshals Service Special Operations Group.

Marshal Pane received his Bachelors of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Mansfield University in 1987.
