On June 1, 2026, pursuant to the Federal Vacancies Reform Act, Greg Leljedal assumed the role of Acting United States Marshal for the Northern District of Florida.
Acting United States Marshal Leljedal oversees all United States Marshals Service (USMS) operations in the Northern District of Florida (N/FL), including federal judicial security, court security, fugitive investigations and apprehension, sex offender and missing child investigations, prisoner operations, asset forfeiture, and service of process.
Prior to joining the USMS, Mr. Leljedal worked in the private sector holding managerial positions in Marketing and Human Resources. He began his USMS career in 2009, assigned to the Southern District of Florida, in both Miami and Fort Lauderdale field offices. In 2014, Mr. Leljedal was promoted to a Supervisory Deputy United States Marshal position in the Eastern District of Virginia where he oversaw the operations throughout the Tidewater region including Norfolk and Newport News. In 2017, he became the Assistant Chief Deputy United States Marshal for the N/FL. In 2022, Mr. Leljedal was promoted to become the Chief Deputy United States Marshal of N/FL. He assumed the role of Acting Marshal for the N/FL on June 1, 2023, until December 27, 2023, when he was designated to serve as the Acting Marshal by the former Attorney General. Mr. Leljedal served in that capacity until February 3, 2026, at which point he returned to his Chief Deputy position.
In addition to his managerial accomplishments, he has conducted and overseen hundreds of investigations leading to the arrest of violent fugitives wanted for crimes including homicides, armed robberies, sexual assaults, and crimes against children. He also has initiated federal Adam Walsh Act cases against absconded sex offenders and earned a Certificate of Appreciation for a National Top 15 Arrest. Throughout his career, Mr. Leljedal has been privileged to support many USMS missions. These duties include protective detail assignments for Supreme Court Justices, dignitaries, members of the Witness Security Program, and the facilitation of civil seizures relating to millions of dollars in assets purchased through ill-gotten gains. He has coordinated large-scale operations related to natural disasters and catastrophic events, including establishing command of the emergency response to district impact from Hurricane Michael in Panama City, Florida.
Mr. Leljedal has a Bachelor’s degree in Criminology from Florida State University and a Master’s degree in Emergency Management from Arizona State University. He has also earned additional professional certifications as a DISC instructor, hostage negotiator, and SWAT operator.
