ABSTRACT: This system contains information on individuals who requests agency records, the
type of request and records requested, the agency response, and internal correspondence related
to the initial processing of the request, subsequent appeals and/or litigation.
PURPOSE: Records in this system aid in the orderly processing of FOI/PA requests for USMS
records and to compile statistical data for annual reports.
ACCESS CONSTRAINTS: Records are protected from unauthorized access through appropriate
administrative, physical, and technical safeguards. These safeguards include restricting access to
those with a need-to-know to perform their official duties and using locks and passwords.
USE CONSTRAINTS: Users are restricted to only those privileges necessary to perform
assigned tasks.
AGENCY PROGRAMS: The FOI/PA system supports the USMS in carrying out statutory
responsibilities under the Freedom of Information Act, 5 U.S.C. § 552, and the Privacy Act of
1974, 5 U.S.C. § 552a.
SOURCES OF DATA: The information contained in this system is provided by the individual
requester, the office with primary responsibility for the program area or system of records subject
to the request, and other Federal agencies which generated the record or referred the request
and/or records to the USMS for access to or correction of USMS records.
