ABSTRACT: This system contains written requests for special deputation of other Federal, state and local law enforcement
officials, selected certificates of firearms qualifications, notification of approvals, and oath of office of persons granted
special deputation.
PURPOSE: The SDF system serves as a centralized record of the special deputations granted by the USMS to assist in
tracking, controlling and monitoring the Special Deputation Program.
ACCESS CONSTRAINTS: Records are protected from unauthorized access through appropriate administrative, physical,
and technical safeguards. Access is restricted by locks, assigned codes and passwords to personnel with a need-to-know to
perform their official duties.
USE CONSTRAINTS: Users are restricted to only those privileges necessary to perform assigned tasks.
AGENCY PROGRAMS: The USMS is authorized to deputize selected persons to perform the functions of a Deputy U.S.
Marshal whenever the law enforcement needs of the USMS so require, to provide courtroom security for the Federal
judiciary, and as designated pursuant to 28 C.F.R. 0.112 and 0.19(a)(3). This system is an essential tool used by the USMS
to accomplish this function.
SOURCES OF DATA: Information in this system is collected from other Federal, state and local law enforcement agencies
for persons granted special deputation.
