Los Angeles Murder Suspect Arrested by U.S. Marshals in Arizona

Phoenix, AZ - The U.S. Marshals Service-led Arizona WANTED Violent Offender Task Force, working in coordination with the Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force, arrested a Los Angeles murder suspect in Chandler on August 6.

George Nunez, 26, was wanted by the Los Angeles Police Department in connection with a homicide that occurred in the Los Angeles area in June 2026.

“Crossing state lines does not end our pursuit,” said United States Marshal Van Bayless. “This arrest demonstrates the reach of the U.S. Marshals Service and the strength of the partnerships that allow law enforcement agencies across the country to work as one. We are proud to have helped return this suspect to the jurisdiction where he will face justice, and we hope his arrest provides some measure of comfort to the victim’s loved ones.”

Following the homicide, the Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force adopted the fugitive investigation and developed information indicating Nunez had fled California for Arizona. The task force requested assistance from the Arizona WANTED Violent Offender Task Force in locating and apprehending him.

On August 6, task force members established surveillance at a residence in Chandler and positively identified Nunez entering and leaving the property. Investigators surrounded the residence and repeatedly directed Nunez to surrender. After multiple announcements, Nunez exited the residence and was taken into custody.

Nunez was booked into the Maricopa County Jail, where he remains pending extradition to Los Angeles.

The Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force conducts similar fugitive investigations throughout California and Nevada.

The Arizona WANTED Violent Offender Task Force is a U.S. Marshals Service led multi-jurisdictional fugitive apprehension unit responsible for more than 1748 arrests in the last year. The task force is comprised of 22 agencies bringing together the resources of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies to locate and arrest the community’s most violent offenders and sexual predators.
