U.S. Marshals Arrest Murder Suspect

SERFTF LogoDetroit, MI – The U.S. Marshals led Detroit Fugitive Apprehension Team (DFAT) along with the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force (SERFTF) are pleased to announce the arrest of Antonio Deshawn Daniels, 41, after twenty-one years on the run. On August 8, 1993, Daniels was allegedly involved in an argument with three males. The argument escalated to murder when Daniels supposedly produced a handgun and fired multiple rounds killing one and severely wounding another.

Approximately one month ago, the Detroit Police Department requested that the Detroit Fugitive Apprehension Team, review the file and apprehend Mr. Daniels. DFAT Investigators diligently worked the case and developed multiple leads. However, one in particular led Investigators to a residence near Savannah, Georgia. Through the investigation, DFAT members developed information that Antonio Daniels had been living under the assumed name of Martez Deshawn Barnes.

DFAT Investigators contacted SERFTF-Savannah Division, and provided them with a possible address of Mr. Daniels. SERFTF members immediately began surveillance on the potential location. Shortly thereafter, Investigators were able to spot Mr. Daniels and take him into custody. Mr. Daniels initially denied the allegations and his true identity. However, after being confronted with a fingerprint analysis, Daniels finally admitted that he was in fact the man they were looking for.

U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of Michigan, Robert M. Grubbs said “No matter how long it takes, no matter how far you run., we will find you and you will face justice.” Daniels is being held in the Southern District of Georgia, pending his extradition back to Detroit, Michigan to answer for his crimes.

The Detroit Fugitive Apprehension Team is comprised of the USMS, CBP Air & Marine Division, Detroit Police, Dearborn Police, Flint Police, Hamtramck Police, ICE, Livonia Police, Macomb County Sheriff, Michigan Air National Guard , MDOC-ARU, Michigan State Police , Oakland County Sheriff, Sterling Heights Police and Wayne County Sheriff.
