Maryland Rape Suspect Caught in Chambersburg by U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force

Harrisburg, PA – Today, United States Marshal Martin J. Pane announced that the United States Marshals Service (USMS) Fugitive Task Force arrested Omar Martinez-Cruz, a 29-year old undocumented alien, in Pennsylvania.

Marshal Pane stated, “It’s important to bring those charged with serious sex crimes against our children to justice. It is my hope that the victim and her family will find comfort knowing the alleged attacker is now in custody.”

On June 3, 2009, an arrest warrant was issued out of Prince George’s County charging Omar Martinez-Cruz with the following offenses.

  • Rape Second Degree
  • Sex Offense Fourth Degree
  • Assault Second Degree

It is alleged while renting a room in a home in Upper Marlboro, Md, Martinez-Cruz had nonconsensual sexual intercourse on multiple occasions with a 14 year old victim who resided in the home. Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Department requested the assistance of the USMS Capital Area Regional Task Force (CARTF) in locating and arresting Martinez-Cruz.

On March 6, 2014 members of the USMS Middle District of Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Martinez-Cruz at the intersection of Route 11 and Salem Road in Chambersburg without incident. Martinez-Cruz was arraigned before the Honorable Todd R. Williams and bail was set at $1,000,000. Martinez-Cruz remains in the Franklin County Prison pending his extradition back to Maryland.

The USMS worked jointly in this investigation with personnel from the Pennsylvania State Police and members of the CARTF.

The concept of all USMS-led fugitive task forces is to seek out and arrest the nation’s most dangerous offenders.
