Convicted Sex Offender Arrested For Murder
Fugitive Captured & Facing 1st Degree Murder Charges

LSFTF LogoSan Antonio, TX – Jorge Vasquez Jr., 27, was arrested early Saturday morning by the United States Marshals Service Lone Star Fugitive Task Force (LSFTF) in San Antonio, TX. An arrest warrant was issued pursuant to an investigation by the La Salle County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO), where it is alleged that Vasquez committed 1st degree murder.

Friday evening, the LSFTF was contacted by the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force (GCVOTF) for assistance in locating and apprehending Vasquez. Members of the LSFTF along with assistance from the LCSO, Texas Department of Public Safety State Troopers, and Texas Rangers immediately initiated an investigation in the search for Vasquez. Subsequent to the investigation, task force officers determined that Vasquez was hiding out in a hotel room located in the 3700 block of Roosevelt, on the south side of San Antonio. As task force officers identified themselves and began entry into the hotel room, Vasquez attempted to barricade the door with a mattress. Task force officers entered the hotel room, made contact with Vasquez, and took him into custody.

Friday morning, Vasquez was allegedly involved in a shooting that resulted in the death of a man in Cotulla, TX. Reports stated that Vasquez and the victim were involved in a verbal altercation that began at a local gas station, but later escalated at another location on the east side of Cotulla. As the altercation escalated, Vasquez allegedly pulled out a small caliber handgun and began firing, striking the victim multiple times. Vasquez immediately fled the scene of the murder and a warrant was issued for his arrest later that day by the Justice of the Peace in La Salle County.

Vasquez, a convicted sex offender as a result of a 2001 conviction, is currently being held in custody at the Bexar County Jail awaiting extradition to La Salle County.

Robert R. Almonte, United States Marshal for the Western District of Texas, stated, “Our task force officers, with the assistance of other law enforcement agencies came together as one cohesive unit to quickly accomplish one mission…find this fugitive, arrest him, and put him behind bars.”
