Roswell, NM – On March 28, 2013, United
States Marshals arrested Crazy Town Roswell (CTR) gang member, Johnny Juan
Barela, for the murder of Gregory Alonzo. On March 18, 2013, Johnny Barela
allegedly stabbed Alonzo to death in a quarrel over money Alonzo owed Barela.
Alonzo was working in his yard with his family when Barela approached. The
murder occurred in front of several family members and small children.
Barela made threats to comeback and kill all of the witnesses to include the
children before fleeing the scene.
On March 19, 2013, the Roswell Police Department obtained a Murder warrant
for the arrest of Johnny Juan Barela. Barela was charged with Murder and
Bribery, Intimidation of a Witness. Barela’s bond is $1,000,000.00.
Johnny Juan Barela fled New Mexico and was tracked by United States Marshals
and Roswell Police Officers to Phoenix, Arizona. Deputy Marshals in Phoenix
located and arrested Barela. Barela is awaiting extradition back to New
Mexico. District of New Mexico, United States Marshal, Conrad Candelaria,
stated “through the effective diligence and exceptional police work by
Deputy United States Marshals and Detectives from the Roswell Police
Department, a dangerous and violent fugitive is apprehended and will be held
accountable for the horrible crimes committed. The crime of murder is a
long-lasting and painfully emotional impact on those left behind, family,
friends and loved ones are without answers and the arrest of the fugitive is
the beginning of healing and closure that is associated with the trial and
sentencing of the person responsible for committing this horrible crime”.
