Atlanta,
GA – The U.S. Marshals Service Counter Gang Unit and the Atlanta Police
Department Fugitive Squad announced today the arrest of Darnell Cunningham
and Quartavis Bridges for the Sept. 15 armed robbery of the Inman Park
restaurant The North Highland. Both subjects are members of the Atlanta
street gang 30 Deep and frequented the Mechanicsville neighborhood of
Atlanta.
The CGU, a joint investigative unit designed to address the growing number
of gang-related violent crimes in the Atlanta area, was established in June
2011 with experience and support of the fugitive investigative platform of
the 48-member Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force (SERFTF) - Atlanta
office. While the CGU operates as a team, it is one part of the SERFTF and
works hand-in-hand with numerous federal, state and local law enforcement
agencies on a daily basis.
Since its inception in 2003, investigations carried out by the SERFTF have
resulted in the apprehension of more than 20,000 violent fugitives in the
state of Georgia. Of these arrests, more than 700 were fugitives wanted for
homicide. The successful initiative is led by the U.S. Marshals Service and
combines federal, state and local law enforcement agencies. With offices in
Atlanta, Macon and Savannah, the SERFTF covers the entire state of Georgia.
The task force objective is to seek out and arrest fugitives charged with
violent crimes, gang members, sex offenders, and other felonies. In 2010,
U.S. Marshals-led task forces arrested more than 90,000 state and local
fugitives on felony charges.
