San
Antonio, TX – Edmond Muhlenberg, 60, was arrested this week at the George
Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, without incident. Muhlenberg was the
target of a fugitive investigation by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force after he
fled while under investigation by the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office. Muhlenberg
was indicted on allegations involving super aggravated sexual assault of a
child.
Task force officers determined that Muhlenberg was on an international flight
from Germany to Cancun, Mexico. Task force officers contacted the U.S. Marshals
Service in Mexico City, who in turn coordinated with their Mexican law
enforcement counterparts. The Instituto Nacional de Migración (INM) detained
Muhlenberg upon arrival in Mexico City. Muhlenberg was detained and presented
before a Mexican immigration judge and determined to have no status to remain in
the country. Muhlenberg was expelled and placed on a flight to Houston, Texas
where he was met by members of the Gulf Coast Violent Offender Fugitive Task
Force. Muhlenberg was formally arrested and transported to the Harris County
Detention Facility where he was subsequently released on a $75,000 bond.
Muhlenberg was indicted this year by a Bexar County Grand Jury for allegations
involving super aggravated sexual assault of a child. The charges were enhanced
to “super” aggravated, as a result of the victim being under 6 years of age. The
indictment alleged that the criminal act took place while the victim was
visiting from Houston for the summer.
Robert Almonte, United States Marshal for the Western District of Texas, states,
“It is important to have close working relationships with not just our state and
local partners, but the international law enforcement community as well. We are
appreciative of the relationship that we have with our Mexican law enforcement
partners and it’s with their assistance we can bring closure to the victims of
violent crimes.”
