Akron,
OH – The U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF)
Akron Division and the Southern District of Florida U.S. Marshals arrested
Jeremy P. Huth, age 40. Huth was wanted by the New Franklin Police Department on
charges of rape of a minor that occurred at the end August of 2011 in New
Franklin, Ohio.
Huth, who is originally from the Akron area, traveled from his
Florida residence and was in Akron visiting family members when the alleged
incident occurred. In October of 2011, the New Franklin Police Department
referred the case to the NOVFTF for assistance with locating and apprehending
Huth. The NOVFTF spent numerous man hours on this case. Huth was tracked from
Ohio to Florida and assistance was requested from the U.S. Marshals Southern
Florida office.
In the first week of December, Huth was profiled in numerous
media outlets as the Fugitive of the Week which resulted in an enormous amount
of tips from the public. A recent tip from a citizen who recognized Huth spurred
the NOVFTF into action. The NOVFTF contacted the U.S. Marshals in Southern
Florida with the newly generated tips.
Yesterday afternoon, U.S. Marshals in Southern Florida spotted Huth’s vehicle
parked in a parking lot in Key West, Florida. They conducted numerous
interviews, that all stated that Huth had changed his appearance and dyed his
hair. Marshal’s set up surveillance around the parking lot where Huth’s vehicle
was parked. At approximately 4:00 p.m., Huth was spotted returning to his
vehicle, where he was apprehended without incident. Huth was transported to the
Munroe County Jail where he is awaiting an extradition hearing to return back to
Ohio to face his charges.
