Austin,
TX – The United States Marshals Service led Lone Star Fugitive Task Force is
pleased to announce the addition of the Kyle Police Department to its fugitive
hunting team. Announcing the latest agency to the task force, United States
Marshal Robert R. Almonte of the Western District of Texas was on hand at the
department’s headquarters to welcome Chief Jeff Barnett to its premier fugitive
hunting team. “The citizens of Kyle will benefit immensely knowing that Chief
Barnett will have access to a task force of experienced law enforcement
professionals to draw upon should the need arise,” commented Marshal Almonte.
The Austin based task force is comprised of area law enforcement agencies,
collectively drawing from participating departments human and investigative
resources to locate fugitives having significant criminal histories involving
weapons and violence. Chief Barnett stated, "The Kyle Police Department is proud
to join this elite fugitive apprehension task force as an indicator of
commitment to the safety and well-being of the visitors and residents of the
fast growing community of Kyle." The task force further focuses efforts
apprehending fugitives posing an increased danger to our communities as well as
to law enforcement. A recent addition to their mission is the enforcement of the
Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act. In fiscal year 2010, Marshal led
task forces arrested 81,900 state and local fugitives and serves as the central
point for agencies to share information on fugitive matters. The task force
works extensively with the international law enforcement community, and
maintains foreign field offices in Jamaica, Dominican Republic and Mexico.
The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force welcomes the Kyle Police Department and
Marshal Almonte further adds, “With law enforcement working together for a
common purpose, all of our communities benefit bringing a task force concept to
a local crime.”
