GA – Two Atlanta men wanted on federal drug warrants for Conspiracy to
Possess with the intent to Distribute 50 grams or more of Methamphetamine were
arrested by the United States Marshals Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task
Force on July 28, 2011 in Atlanta, Georgia.
Benjamin Garcia Hernandez, 46, and Sylvestre Loyo, and a third man Paulo Losolla
were indicted in Federal Court in the Southern District of Georgia by the Drug
Enforcement Administration in October of 2008 for Conspiracy to Possess with
Intent to Distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine in a case that
originated in Tattnall County, Georgia. Hernandez and Loyo have been fugitives
since the warrants were issued. Losolla has been tried and convicted on the
charges and was sentenced in September of 2010.
The fugitive cases were referred to the Savannah Office of the U.S. Marshals
Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force in December of 2008. The Savannah Task
Force Investigator conducted an extensive investigation over the last almost
three years. Numerous leads generated by the Savannah office were forwarded to
and worked by the Atlanta Office of the Marshals Fugitive Task. On July 26,
2011, new information was developed by the Savannah Task Force. This information
was then passed to the Atlanta Marshals to investigate. On July 28, 2011, based
on the information provided by the Savannah Task Force, Hernandez was arrested
by the Atlanta Marshals Task Force at 1357 Liberty Parkway, NW, in Atlanta,
Georgia. The Savannah investigator thought that Sylvestre Loyo could be with
Hernandez and passed that information to the Atlanta Marshals as well. Upon the
arrest of Hernandez, the Atlanta Marshals developed a possible address for Loyo
in the Atlanta area and immediately went to that location and found Sylvestre
Loyo. Loyo was then arrested without incident. Both men were taken to a local
jail to await removal hearings to send them back to the Southern District of
Georgia for trial on the above drug charges.
Annually, investigations carried out by the U.S. Marshals result in the
apprehension of over 36, 000 federal fugitives. More federal fugitives are
arrested by the Marshals Service than all other federal agencies combined.
The Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force has three offices: Atlanta,
Macon, and Savannah. The task force covers the whole state of Georgia. The
Savannah Office of the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force is a team
comprised of investigators from the Georgia Department of Corrections, the
Chatham County Sheriff’s Department, the Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police
Department and the United States Marshals Service. The task force objective is
to seek out and arrest fugitives charged with violent crimes, drug crimes, sex
offenders, and other felonies. In 2010, U.S. Marshals led task forces arrested
more than 81,000 state and local fugitives on felony charges.
