Austin,
TX – Vern E. Houston, 26, of Corpus Christi was arrested last night
without incident by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force. Houston was arrested at
approximately 9:00 p.m., in the 300 block of W. Ben White Blvd., in South
Austin.
Task Forces officers were alerted to Houston’s presence in Austin yesterday
afternoon by the U.S. Marshals Service in Corpus Christi. Houston, a registered
sex offender and transient was recently placed on the Nueces County Sheriff’s
Office, Top 10 Most Wanted. Houston was wanted for a series of burglaries in the
Nueces County area. Information provided to the Austin based task force
indicated Houston was traveling with a carnival that recently arrived in Austin.
Task Force officers converged on the carnival venue after officers identified
Houston operating a carnival ride. Houston was immediately arrested and found to
be in possession of several driver licenses and identity documents that were not
his.
Houston was transported to the Travis County Jail pending his transfer to Corpus
Christi.
