Cincinnati,
OH – Cathy J. Jones, United States Marshal for the Southern District of
Ohio, announced today that John Fitzgerald Cannada has been arrested. On
01/27/2011, John F. Cannada, 46 years old, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals
in Lexington, KY. The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office issued an arrest
warrant for Cannada, charging him with Failure to Register as a Sex Offender
on 03/15/2007, stemming from a 1997 conviction for Gross Sexual Imposition
of a Minor. Cannada was released from the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation
and Correction in 2007 and never reported or registered to the Hamilton
County Sheriff’s Department. Cannada has prior convictions of Sexual Battery
of a Minor, Failure to Register, and Domestic Violence.
Following an extensive three year investigation, Investigators with the
United States Marshal’s Service in the Southern District of Ohio, developed
information that Cannada was hiding out in the Lexington, KY area using the
alias, Joe Jones. Investigators with the United States Marshal’s Service in
Southern Ohio along with U.S. Marshals from the Eastern District of Kentucky
located Cannada at a residence on North Hampton Drive in Lexington, KY.
Cannada was arrested without incident and is being housed at the Fayette
County Jail awaiting extradition back to Hamilton County, OH.
Deputy U.S. Marshal Brian Hilsinger stated, “this arrest is significant for
the citizens of Hamilton County, Ohio and the citizens of Fayette County,
Kentucky, due to the fact that Mr. Cannada is a convicted sex offender who
has knowingly failed to register as required by law. Mr. Cannada has gone
as far as to live under an assumed name to avoid apprehension by law
enforcement”.
U.S. Marshals are the nation’s primary fugitive hunting organization and
capture more federal fugitives each year than all other law enforcement
agencies combined.
