| Fort Worth Murder Suspect Captured in Odessa |
|
Odessa, TX – On Sunday night, August
29th, Fort Worth police allege that 21 year old Dante Maurice Harris shot
and killed an unarmed man in an apartment complex parking lot in northwest
Fort Worth, and then fled the area on foot. Witnesses later identified
Harris as the shooter, and a Murder warrant was issued the following day for
his arrest. Police, working with the U.S. Marshal’s Dallas Ft. Worth
Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (DFW-FAST) Task Force, developed
information that Harris had boarded a Greyhound bus on Monday, headed for
Lordsburg, New Mexico. By the time investigators received this information,
the bus had already gone through Abilene on Interstate 20, and was scheduled
to stop in Odessa before continuing west. U.S. Marshals in Abilene notified
Marshals in Midland, and the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force scrambled to
catch up with the bus in Odessa with less than 30 minutes notice. As task
force officers approached Odessa, they observed the bus pulling into town as
another team of officers arrived at the bus terminal to make the area safe
since it was possible that Harris may still be in possession of the murder
weapon, a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun. For more information about the U.S. Marshals Service, visit http://www.usmarshals.gov |
