Cincinnati, OH
– U.S. Marshal Cathy Jones of the Southern District of Ohio announces the
arrest of Jonothan Mapp, Jr. Mapp is charged with multiple counts of rape in
Hamilton County, Ohio. He was indicted for allegedly raping a 5-year-old
child over a six-year period between 2001 and 2007. Authorities say Mapp is
facing up to life in prison if convicted of these charges.
On August 30, the U.S. Marshals led Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension
Strike Team (SOFAST), developed information that Mapp was hiding out in the
New Martinsville, WV area. Deputy U.S. Marshals from SOFAST, along with
Deputy U.S. Marshals from the Northern District of West Virginia, tracked
him to an apartment complex located on North State Route 2 in New
Martinsville, WV. Mapp was located in an apartment hiding in the back
bedroom. Deputies took him into custody without incident. Mapp is being held
at the West Virginia Northern Regional Jail in Moundsville, WV, awaiting
extradition back to Hamilton County, Ohio.
U.S. Marshal Jones stated, “The arrest of this subject highlights our
commitment to protect the citizens of the Ohio Valley in cooperation with
law enforcement from both Ohio and West Virginia. Often, fugitives feel a
false sense of relief when they cross state lines because they do not
realize we stand strong together across jurisdictional boundaries.”
SOFAST is a multi-jurisdictional task force comprised of the U.S. Marshals,
Cincinnati Police Department, Ohio Adult Parole Authority, U.S. Department
of Agriculture OIG, Warren County Prosecutor’s Office, Sharonville Police
Department, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
U.S. Marshals are the nation’s primary fugitive hunting organization and
capture more federal fugitives each year than all other law enforcement
agencies combined. For more information about the U.S. Marshals Service, visit
