San Juan, PR – On Tuesday, Aug 3, the
U.S. Marshals District of Puerto Rico will join local,
state, and other federal law enforcement agencies at the 27th National Night
Out (NNO), at the Hiram
Bithorn parking facilities after 5 p.m. This activity takes place every year
and citizens, law enforcement
agencies, community groups, businesses and local officials in close to
15,000 communities from all 50
states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases nationwide will
join forces to mark the “27th
Annual National Night Out" – which is sponsored by the National Association
of Town Watch (NATW).
Nationally, over 36 million people are expected to participate in ‘America’s
Night Out Against Crime’ this
year. “This is one our preferred
activities, we want to join other law enforcement agencies and the community
in the fight against crime enhancing the partnership and sharing information
about crime prevention and
awareness,” said Eric Timberman, Acting U.S. Marshal for the District of
Puerto Rico. The U.S. Marshals will be
displaying its innovative equipment, vehicles, and law enforcement tools.
Deputies will be fingerprinting children and orienting parents on children
safety prevention as part of the
National Center for Missing and Exploited Children Take 25 program, a
program that encourages
parents to take twenty-five minutes to talk to their children about child
safety issues. Annually, investigations
carried out by the U.S. Marshals result in the apprehension of approximately
34,000 federal fugitives. The U.S. Marshals arrest more fugitives, than all
other federal agencies
combined. The U.S. Marshals Puerto Rico Fugitive Task Force is a team
comprised of law
enforcement officers from the Puerto Rico Police Department, Corrections
Administration, Special
Investigations Bureau (NIE), San Juan Municipal Police, Customs and Border
Protection, and the U.S.
