Southern Maine Violent Crimes Task Force Arrests Escaped Felon
Portland, ME – An escaped prisoner was arrested today after an intensive investigation by a team of law enforcement officers led by the U.S. Marshals Service’s Southern Maine Violent Crimes Task Force.  Wayne Collamore has been wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service for escape since May 28th when he walked away from a US Bureau of Prisons halfway house in Portland, ME.

Collamore was arrested at the Owl’s Head Light State Park at approximately 2pm today.  He was arrested without incident after Deputy U.S. Marshals spotted him in a car which was reported stolen today to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.  The vehicle was stolen from Round Pond, ME and officers from agencies all over the mid coast area were on the lookout.  He was sleeping at the wheel and armed with a .22 cal revolver when Deputy U.S. Marshals approached the vehicle and affected the arrest.

Collamore was serving the remainder of a prison sentence for Felon in Possession of a Firearm when he walked away from the halfway house.  He was spotted on June 3rd in Nobleboro and fled into the woods.  A large scale manhunt ensued and participating agencies included the Lincoln County SO, the MDEA, the Maine State Police, the Maine Warden Service, the Damariscotta Police and Fire Department, Waldoboro Police Department, Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office, Lincoln County and Kennebec County Emergency Management, and the Rockland Police Department.  Since that time officers have actively pursued multiple leads throughout the region.

“This is just another example of local, state and federal law enforcement working together to bring violent offenders to justice” said Noel C. March, U.S. Marshal for the District of Maine.  “The great work and cooperation of numerous agencies throughout the mid-coast area led to this successful apprehension.”
