Eastern District of Louisiana Hosts Local
Middle School Students
as Part of Power Ties Career Day |

New Orleans, LA – On May 14, 2010,
students from Arthur Ashe Charter School visited the Eastern District of
Louisiana’s United States Marshals Office in New Orleans. The students spent
the morning with District Deputies learning what a typical day in the life
of a Deputy U.S. Marshal was like. Highlights of their visit included them
being shown how prisoners were processed, attending Federal Magistrate
Court, being given a taser demonstration and visiting with United States
Marshal Genny May who deputized the students as Junior Deputies. The
students also toured the Operations and Enforcement Sections of the District
along with the Federal Courthouse’s Control Center. The students’ visit
concluded with them eating lunch with the deputies, where all of their
questions about the United States Marshals Service were answered and they
The students were a part of a program called Power Ties in conjunction with New Orleans Outreach, the Junior League and the Young Leadership Council.
