Donaldsonville, LA – On 3/22/2010, Middle
Louisiana Fugitive Task Force (MLFTF) investigators arrested fugitives
Lawrence Crandle and Brandon Payton. Both fugitives were wanted by the Drug
Enforcement Administration (DEA) for multiple counts of Possession with
Intent to Distribute 5 grams or more of crack cocaine. Crandle was also
wanted for being a Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
MLFTF investigators identified an address in Donaldsonville, Louisiana that
Candle was known frequent. Investigators responded to the address and
immediately located Crandle coming out of the back door of the residence.
Crandle was taken into custody without incident. After obtaining consent to
search the residence, MLFTF investigators located 2 grams of suspected crack
cocaine, 8 grams of suspected marijuana and a digital scale that were hidden
on top of some cabinets. The drugs were individually wrapped for
distribution and sale.
MLFTF investigators then proceeded to a nearby address that was last known
to be used by Payton. As investigators were interviewing occupants of the
residence, an alert investigator on the exterior perimeter observed a
subject that resembled Payton standing on a side street. The investigator,
along with another officer, ran over and identified Payton before he had a
chance to flee. The investigator observed Payton throw an object into an
unoccupied vehicle that he was standing by as they approached. Payton was
taken into custody and secured. Once all investigators were present and the
scene was secure, investigators observed the item that Payton threw into the
car laying on the seat in plain view. The package contained 8 grams of
suspected crack cocaine, 23 grams of suspected marijuana and 4 grams of
suspected MDMA. All of the drugs were individually packaged distribution and
sale. Payton also had approximately $180 in $20 bills on his person.
Both Crandle and Payton were transported to the US Courthouse in Baton Rouge
for booking.
