Cleveland, OH – Wanted fugitive Marlon Clemons, age 31, was arrested last evening at approximately 9:00 pm in Southfield, Michigan. Clemons, who was at the top of the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force’s wanted list, was finally apprehended after alluding police for the past few weeks. During the past week, the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force, with the assistance of the Cleveland Division of Police SWAT Unit, searched numerous residences in Cleveland’s fourth district in an attempt to arrest Clemons with no avail. After conducting many interviews and investigative activities, it was believed that Clemons fled to the state of Michigan to hide from the law.

The Task Force sent a lead to the U.S. Marshals Office in Detroit with information on possible hiding locations for Clemons. The U.S. Marshals Detroit Fugitive Apprehension Team (DFAT) quickly responded to the Task Force’s request and set up surveillance on a few locations where Clemons was believed to be. The investigation led the DFAT to the Residence Inn Hotel on the 26000 block of Central Park Boulevard in Southfield, Michigan where Clemons possibly was staying. Deputy Marshals and Task Force Officers set up a perimeter around the facility and spotted a rental vehicle that matched the description of a car that Clemons was believed to be driving. Further surveillance revealed a black male fitting the description of Clemons in the front lobby of the hotel. When the Task Force approached Clemons to identify him he attempted to flee into an employee area behind the front desk. It was there, after a brief struggle, that Clemons was placed under arrest.

Marlon Clemons was profiled locally in Cleveland as the Fugitive of the Week on WKYC Channel 3 News and in Cleveland’s Plain Dealer during the week of February 1, 2010. On March 11, 2009 Clemons was believed to be the primary suspect involved in an incident which started as a fight and escalated into a shooting on the 1300 block of Ontario Street in Cleveland. In a separate incident on June 25, 2009 it is alleged that Clemons fired an AK47 Assault Rifle at a home located on the 4200 block of E.119th Street in Cleveland. Marlon Clemons was wanted on five felony warrants stemming from the Cleveland Police Department, Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office, Lorain County Sheriff’s Office, and the Ohio Adult Parole Authority in Ohio. His charges include aggravated robbery, failure to appear on felonious assault charges, weapons offenses, parole violations stemming from a robbery conviction, and escape.

Acting Assistant Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal Jason Place stated, “This is the second time our task force has been on the hunt for Marlon Clemons. While he is one of the more elusive fugitives we have tracked, we have again successfully located and apprehended him and hopefully helped the community and his victims rest easier tonight. Great job to all of the investigators involved in this manhunt!”
