Minneapolis –
Early this morning, a group of officers led by Deputy U.S. Marshals arrested
Tyrell McCoy on a warrant for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, murder
in the first degree and armed criminal action. McCoy was arrested in an
apartment in Minneapolis with the assistance of the Minnesota Bureau of
Criminal Apprehension, St. Louis City Police and Minneapolis Police
Department. Based on reports it is alleged that McCoy and an accomplice noticed the victim working on his car at an address on Romaine Place in St. Louis, Missouri. McCoy and his accomplice allegedly returned to the scene wearing ski masks and were armed with an assault rifle and handgun. McCoy and his accomplice exited a van, shot and killed the victim and fled the scene. The accomplice was apprehended a short time later by St. Louis Metropolitan Police. Deputies and Task Force Officers assigned to the St. Louis Metropolitan Fugitive Task Force developed information that McCoy had fled St. Louis to Minneapolis. Deputies in St. Louis obtained a warrant for Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution. The information was forwarded to deputies in Minnesota. Working on the information from St. Louis, deputies in Minneapolis developed information McCoy was staying with family at an apartment on 38th Street in Minneapolis. Deputies and Task Force Officers established surveillance on the location and confirmed McCoy was located inside. Entry was made into the apartment and McCoy was arrested without incident.
