Local Fugitive Arrested by the United States Marshals Service Task Force

JETFTF LogoMembers of the United States Marshals Service Joint East Texas Fugitive Task Force arrested Rodneick Carl Thompson today, November 03, 2009, for several outstanding warrants for his arrest. Thompson evaded arrest from local authorities on Monday, November 02, after being found in possession of a controlled substance and a prohibited weapon. Thompson has also been wanted since March of 2009 for violations of his state parole, which resulted in his conviction for Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.

At approximately 11:00 am, on Tuesday, November 03, 2009, members of the USMS Joint East Texas Fugitive Task Force, consisting of Deputy U.S. Marshals and the Smith County DA’s Office, successfully located Thompson. USMS Task Force Officers tracked Thompson down to 5590 County Road 4180 West, in Tyler TX. When Task Force officers arrived at the residence, Thompson attempted to evade arrest, once again, by fleeing the scene on foot. Thompson jumped a fence and ran through neighbor’s yards to avoid apprehension. Task Force officers chased Thompson into a heavily wooded area near his home. USMS Task Force Officers were then assisted by the Smith County Precinct 5 Constables Office and Smith County Sheriff’s Office to quickly canvass the area in search for Thompson. The Precinct 5 Constables Office also provided a K-9 unit to help track Thompson down.

After a brief search on foot, DA Investigator Kyle Benson and Deputy U.S. Marshal Chris Deaton found Thompson hiding under a storage building. Thompson managed to crawl underneath the storage building, which was in a residential backyard, approximately one block away from the initial chase. Task Force officers quickly arrested Thompson and he was transported to the Smith County Jail, where he awaits new pending charges for Felony Evading Arrest.

The Joint East Texas Fugitive Task Force is a team comprised of law enforcement officers from 56 law enforcement agencies in the East Texas area. The task force objective is to seek out and arrest federal, state, and local fugitives, mainly those with violent criminal histories to include sex offenders.
