| U.S. Marshals Badgerland Fugitive Apprehension Squad Captures Iowa Fugitive |

MADISON, WI – The Badgerland Fugitive
Apprehension Squad arrested Tavaras Montgomery, 24, in Madison Wednesday,
July 29. Montgomery was wanted on charges of Willful Injury, Intimidation
with a Dangerous Weapon, and Felon in Possession of a firearm in Waterloo,
Iowa. On July 20, 2009, Waterloo Police officers responded to a shooting incident where they found 33-year-old Bernard Edwards shot once in the abdomen. The alleged shooter identified in the incident was Tavaras Montgomery. Iowa investigators developed information that Montgomery may be in the Madison area. Information was immediately reported to the Badgerland Fugitive Apprehension Squad. Task force officers from the Badgerland Fugitive Apprehension Squad acquired information which led them to the Goodwill store where the suspect was believed to be. Upon exiting the store, Montgomery was immediately arrested. Along with Montgomery, two other individuals were also arrested, Dayonis Bumgarner and Curisse Smith, who were both wanted on unrelated charges. One weapon was recovered at the scene in the suspect’s property. The Badgerland Fugitive Apprehension Squad is a multi-jurisdictional task force comprised of law enforcement officers from the Madison Office of the U.S. Marshals Service, Dane County Sheriffs Department, City of Madison Police Department, Wisconsin Department of Corrections-Division of Probation and Parole and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. ### |
