Austin,
TX – Clayton Douglas Shoemate, 38, of Austin was arrested last night in
Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico by Immigration authorities. Shoemate was
quickly deported for violating the immigration laws of the Republic of
Mexico. The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force met Shoemate at the Port of Entry
in Eagle Pass, Texas and was arrested for an outstanding January 2008 charge
arising from the Austin Police Department alleging Shoemate was involved in
sexual assaults against a child. Investigation by the Lone Star Fugitive
Task Force and the Austin Police Department recently uncovered that Shoemate
was living in Piedras Negras, Mexico. The task force requested Mexican law
enforcement assistance in locating Shoemate in a local Piedras Negras
neighborhood. Law enforcement authorities in Mexico arrested Shoemate
without incident and deported him at approximately 1:00 a.m. Shoemate was remanded to the custody of the Maverick County Detention Center in Eagle Pass pending his return to Travis County. LaFayette Collins, United States Marshal for the Western District of Texas states, “The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force is committed to maintaining our strong cooperative efforts with our Mexican counterparts to seek out and arrest fugitives who pose a danger in Texas or Mexico.”
