Man Arrested by Marshals Task Force for Battery Now Charged With Murder; Sex Offender also Arrested  

PENSACOLA COUNTY, FL - A man who was a victim of an aggravated battery last week in Louisiana died Wednesday afternoon after being taken off life support. The U.S. Marshals Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested David Erin Nelson last week at his home in Crestview, FL who was accused of aggravated battery after he sucker-punched a man for no apparent reason knocking him out, losing consciousness never to wake up again. According to police reports, Nelson was involved in a physical altercation outside of a Lake Charles night club a week ago in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana. Witnesses said that the 25 year old was thrown out of the club and was outside arguing with security when an unidentified man walked up to the club and Nelson punched him one time knocking him unconscious. Reports also stated that the victim’s head also hit the ground. The victim was rushed to a local hospital with life threatening injuries at the time. Nelson was taken into custody by the Task Force at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday while he was standing in the street outside of his home in Crestview. Nelson was transported to the Okaloosa County Jail and is awaiting extradition to Louisiana. Okaloosa Deputies served the 2nd Degree Murder warrant on Nelson yesterday at the Okaloosa County Jail where he is awaiting extradition to Louisiana.

Also arrested today by the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force (GCRFTF) in Mississippi was fugitive Robert Sean Elwell who is currently wanted by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office for Capital Sexual Battery and Lewd/Lascivious Molestation of a Child Under 12 years old. Information was developed by Escambia County Investigators that Elwell, 25, was currently living with his mother in Prentiss County; MS. The Pensacola Task Force contacted the Marshals in Baldwyn, MS this morning and requested their assistance. The GCRFTF conducted surveillance on Elwell’s mother’s residence. The Task Force observed Elwell leave the house to take out the garbage and walk the dog. Elwell was arrested without incident and booked into the Lee County Jail to await extradition to Escambia County. A Capital Felony Offense can carry a death sentence in Florida if convicted.

Also arrested today by the Florida Regional Task Force in Pensacola was Jessie Irlanzer Ransom, 28, at an apartment in the Session Apartments on Miller Road in Milton. Ransom is wanted by the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office for Possession of Cocaine with the Intention to Sell. The Marshals Task Force learned from Deputy U.S. Marshals in Tallahassee that Ransom was living in Milton. Ransom was arrested without incident and was transported by Santa Rosa Deputies to the Santa Rosa County Jail and is awaiting extradition back to Wakulla County.
