| Rapist, 25 Years on the Run, Arrested by Task Force |
|
Columbus, OH – James Wahlrab, United
States Marshal for the Southern District of Ohio, announced today that David
McClary has been arrested. The 53 year-old McClary had been on the run for
25 years. In 1984 McClary was convicted of Rape, a first degree felony, and was sentenced to serve a prison term of 5 to 25 years. Facing the lengthy prison term, McClary absconded from court supervision while on bond and failed to report for his incarceration. A warrant was issued in 1985 and McClary had been a wanted fugitive ever since. The Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (SOFAST) arrested McClary today near the 1400 block of Minnesota Avenue in Columbus. McClary was taken into custody without incident. SOFAST credited Crime Stoppers of Central Ohio with providing a crucial tip as to McClary’s location. Marshal Wahlrab stated “The Columbus community is getting more involved by working with law enforcement agencies and Crime Stoppers to get those in their neighborhood that commit these violent crimes off their streets. We’re seeing more and more people stepping up and calling us to let us know where the criminals are located. With their help, we’ll continue to make our neighborhoods a little safer.” SOFAST is a multi-agency fugitive apprehension team led by the U.S. Marshals Service and comprised of the following law enforcement agencies in the Columbus area: U. S. Marshals Service, U.S. Attorney’s Office, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Columbus Division of Police, Ohio Adult Parole Authority, Ross County Sheriff’s Office, Grove City Police Department, Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation, U.S. Department of Agriculture – OIG, Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Columbus Division of Fire, Reynoldsburg Police Department, Whitehall Police Department, Grandview Heights Police Department, Lancaster Police Department, and the Worthington Police Department.
